Yellow Magic Orchestra were the Japanese electropop band, formed in 1978.

A main members were Haruomi Hosono (bass), Yukihiro Takahashi (drums) and Ryuichi Sakamoto (keyboards).

A band was originally conceived as a of these-off studio plan by Hosono, a more ii members existence recruited session musicians - a idea was to create an album fusing orientalist exotica (cf their cover version of Martin Denny's Firecracker) by having modern electronics.
